Taunton in the spotlight

With record house price rises

Quite recently Taunton has been making national headlines due to the soaring house prices in and around the town. This has been happening across the nation but last year house prices in Taunton are reported to have risen faster than anywhere else in England.

The Taunton area is well known for its unique houses, picturesque villages, and its magnificent surrounding countryside which have become a focal point for people deciding to move to Taunton, particularly from large cities. Delightful riverside settings await in Taunton, along with cobbled streets and eye-catching architecture making up a prominent part of day-to-day life. There are also plenty of amenities, with an excellent range of leisure facilities, Somerset County Cricket Club, the Brewhouse Theatre, and shops, also a fine choice of restaurants, pubs and cafes.

With the pandemic slowing in 2021 public confidence is returning with a vengeance within the property market. This was hugely significant in the rise of house prices, particularly related to the demand for home office areas and extra space within the home.

To quote from the Daily Mail, ‘According to the figures, Taunton, Somerset's county town which is famous for its cider and is home to a racecourse and cricket ground, saw average house prices soar by more than a fifth (21 per cent) this year. Average property prices in the town, which is surrounded attractive countryside including the Quantock Hills, rose by £56,546 to £315,759.’

This dramatic situation cannot continue indefinitely as experts predict that house price growth will slow down as the year progresses. The national chain of estate agents Savills forecasts overall price rises of 3.5% this year and 3% in 2023. The property portal Zoopla has similar projections, forecasting a 3% rise this year.
