Nuts to sell over the Christmas holiday?

No, say Rightmove – It’s the busiest time of the year!

For most of us, December is one of the most hectic months of the year thanks to an increased social calendar and the need to prepare gifts, meals and events. It seems like madness to throw selling your home into the mix. However, statistics have repeatedly shown that the period between Christmas and New Year brings a huge spike in the number of people searching for a home online.

It's the only time of year when you can guarantee that most people aren't at work, they're usually around partners or family they might be buying a home with, and the weather makes staying on the sofa appealing. Also, an impending New Year prompts many to think about any big changes they're planning, of which a house is usually one.

While it may seem like a hassle to put your property on the market during the festive season, it could significantly boost your sales prospects by making the most of increased internet traffic and ensuring plenty of viewings are booked into the dairy once January rolls around.

Rightmove say that Boxing Day is their busiest all year. Statistics have shown over recent years that the busiest days of the year for internet traffic on property portals are the days immediately following Christmas and Boxing Day. It is one of the few holidays that the family will be all together and most likely at home.

Sellers can therefore take advantage of this busy time. Once Christmas Day is done and Boxing Day leftovers eaten, what do people looking for a New Year move do? They start looking for a new home so don’t miss the opportunity to sell your house during the holidays.

If you’re planning a sale early in the New Year and would like to heed this advice, call us now for a marketing proposal meeting and if you like what you hear, your property can be one of those enjoying the limelight the day after Boxing Day and quite possibly finding a buyer soon after.

We are aware that some of our competitors are shutting shop from Friday the 21st of December until Wednesday the 2nd of January. Not Wilsons – with the exception of Christmas Day, Boxing Day and New Years Day, our office will be open – and busy!
