Marvel at the Mump from a Riverside Haven

Splendid period house with two holiday homes

‘All along the backwater through the rushes tall, ducks are a dabbling, up tails all!’ This harmonious line from the famous ode by Kenneth Grahame invariably comes to mind when we’re invited to sell waterside homes. It conjures up a vision of idyllic scenery in the peaceful type of environment many of us dream of lazing around in one day.

Well that day may be on the horizon for those looking to take up such a lifestyle with the welcome arrival on the market with us this week of a unique and incredibly versatile property at Burrowbridge, the scenic little village set alongside the River Parrett and dwarfed by the famous Burrow Mump, midway between Taunton and Street.

Particularly spacious and with oodles of character, the distinctive Rosewood House dates back well into the nineteenth century. With large living rooms and four double bedrooms, this fascinating property can easily accommodate a family eager to avoid stepping on one another’s toes. For the hobbyist, D.I.Y. fanatic or collector, there’s a copious amount of workshop/studio/storage space and there’s also a lovely garden with a sturdy summer house to rest your laurels when the days' labour’s done.

That’s not all. There’s a most valuable bonus within the curtilage - Hector’s Barn. Having outdone its usefulness over countless bygone years for the storage of Withy’s for the local basket making trade, the barn has been converted into two stylish and well fitted holiday apartments.

Both attract valuable custom and associated income throughout much of the year and each has their own special merits. The jewel in the crown must however be the first floor unit which has glazed doors opening from the living area onto a raised balcony. This must be as fine a vantage point on the Somerset Levels as one could ever hope to find, gazing across the river towards the nearby Mump and over a vast expanse of moorland.

It’s not just ‘Ducks a dabbling’ here - Rosewood House overlooks a bird sanctuary and natural wildlife park -  with free membership for one very lucky buyer who we don’t anticipate will be very hard to find!
